New Form Podcast: Mario Klingemann
Building art systems.
In this episode of New Form, I talk with artist Mario Klingemann, one of the pioneers of working with AI and machine learning in art.
His work was a major trigger for my own interest in exploring AI back in 2023, at a moment when I started to seriously question what this technology could mean for creativity and art practice.
We unpack how he thinks about AI not as a tool, but as a system. Something that introduces unpredictability, friction and new forms of authorship into artmaking.
We also dive into Botto, the autonomous art project Mario co-created, and what it reveals about the shifting role of the artist when machines and communities are part of the process.
It’s a conversation about experimentation and what it really means to make art with systems.

This is the last post of 2025. It was a huge year for AI and its impact on creativity, reshaping how art is made, shared and understood.
Next year, this newsletter will go beyond the podcast, with more insights into my own process and ongoing work with this technology.
Stay tuned.
